Dark Pokemon in Kanto. Team Rocket has Mewtwo, and the signal from its armor is turning Pokemon against their trainers.
Season 2 is a new Story Mode set in Kanto. A Team Rocket truck overturns outside Pallet Town, and the run starts with one of the three Dark Pokemon it was carrying. From there the road follows Kanto's eight Gyms, with Team Rocket on every road between them.
Blaine, the Cinnabar Gym Leader, used to work for Rocket and helped create Mewtwo. He follows the signal with you and writes down what he finds in his field journal. The journal opens from the PokeStop, where the Casino used to be.
The run has three acts. Act 1 (Gyms 1 to 3) is the outbreak. Act 2 (Gyms 4 to 6) is the investigation, and Mew starts to appear. Act 3 (Gyms 7 and 8) leads to the source. After the eighth Gym come Victory Road, the Elite Four, Blue, and Cerulean Cave.
A Dark Pokemon is under the signal. It is not the Dark type: a Dark Houndoom is a Fire and Dark type that is also under the signal, and the battle log always names it with the prefix, like "Dark Houndoom".
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Stats | +10% on every stat, HP and Speed included |
| Obedience | Ignores you 1 time in 10 (15% of the time in Pro): half the time it hurts itself, half the time it loafs |
| Team Rocket | Only Rocket can control Dark Pokemon. Rocket's never disobey; everyone else's do, yours included |
| Evolution | A Dark Pokemon evolves normally and stays Dark |
| Look | Signal interference: every 1.92 seconds a slice of the sprite slips sideways with a violet copy behind it |
At the start of every run, after the opening scene, a card sums up these rules. Tick "Don't show this again" on it to skip it in later runs.
| Act 1 | Act 2 | Act 3 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wild Pokemon, Dark | 1 in 6 | 1 in 4 | 1 in 3 |
| Wild Pokemon, Light | none | 1 in 40 | 1 in 25 |
| Team Rocket on the road, Dark | 25% | 40% | 60% |
| Mew card in a wild list | none | 1 in 15 lists | 1 in 15 lists |
Every road has its own wild Pokemon: the ones FireRed and LeafGreen have there, plus related Pokemon from later games, bugs in Viridian Forest, ghosts in Pokemon Tower, fossils at the Mansion. The Safari Zone is Dark-heavy: Dark Pokemon show up at twice the act's rate there, Light at the normal rate, and the Mew card never appears.
Every wild list, rerolls included, has at least one Pokemon with a type that hits the next Gym super effectively. On Mt. Moon that means something for Misty, on Nugget Bridge something for Lt. Surge. The PokeStop sells up to 5 Reroll Tickets a run in Season 2.
The usual balls work worse on a Dark Pokemon. The Signal Ball is made for them: it costs 40G at the PokeStop, under Poke Balls, from the start of the run. On any other Pokemon it works like a regular Poke Ball.
| Ball | On a Dark Pokemon | On any other |
|---|---|---|
| Poke Ball | 0.75x | 1x |
| Great Ball | 0.95x | 1.5x |
| Ultra Ball | 1.2x | 2x |
| Signal Ball | 2x | 1x |
| Master Ball | Never misses | Never misses |
The Safari Zone keeps its own catch formula, with no Dark penalty, so it stays the easy place to catch Dark Pokemon.
A Light Pokemon has been near Mew. It gets no extra stats and always listens. What it has is a hit that breaks through the signal: Light Pokemon deal 1.5x damage to Dark Pokemon and to Mewtwo's armor. A Light Pokemon has a white scanline that sweeps down its sprite every 1.92 seconds, and stays Light when it evolves.
Mew cannot be caught. When a Mew card shows up in a wild list and you pick it, Mew teleports away and a Light Pokemon takes the slot. That Pokemon comes from the same strength band as the rest of the list.
The Origin Serum turns a Dark Pokemon Light: the +10% and the disobedience go, and it deals 1.5x to Dark from then on. Use it from the Pokemon's page in the Lab. In the Lab, a Dark Pokemon shows a small Serum icon while you hold one.
| Source | Serums |
|---|---|
| Blaine, on Nugget Bridge (after the first Rocket fight past Misty) | 1 |
| Blaine, at Pokemon Tower in Lavender (after the first Rocket fight there) | 1 |
| Blaine, after the sixth Gym (Sabrina) | 1 |
| The PokeStop shop, from Act 2, 300G, one per run | 1 |
| Knocking out a Dark Pokemon with a Light one drops a Serum Fragment. Three Fragments make one Serum | 1 per 3 |
Purifying is a choice, not a free upgrade: a purified Pokemon loses the 10%. Every Pokemon purified is worth 80 points.
Grunts work every road, often in Double Battles. Three Executives hold the last three roads before the League, and the fourth waits at the end.
| Where | Who | Signature |
|---|---|---|
| Silph Co., Saffron (road 6) | Executive Proton | Golbat |
| Pokemon Mansion, Cinnabar (road 7) | Executive Ariana | Arbok |
| Viridian City (road 8) | Executive Petrel | Weezing |
| Victory Road | Executive Proton, again | Golbat |
| Cerulean Cave | Executive Archer, the acting boss | Houndoom, and every Pokemon he has is Dark |
An Executive's signature Pokemon is always Dark. Anything weaker than the road's strength band is Dark too, and the rest roll at the road's Dark rate.
| Gym | Leader | Type | Before it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1, Boulder Badge | Brock | Rock | Viridian Forest |
| 2, Cascade Badge | Misty | Water | Mt. Moon |
| 3, Thunder Badge | Lt. Surge | Electric | Nugget Bridge |
| 4, Rainbow Badge | Erika | Grass | Pokemon Tower, Lavender |
| 5, Soul Badge | Koga | Poison | Rocket Hideout |
| 6, Marsh Badge | Sabrina | Psychic | Silph Co. |
| 7, Volcano Badge | Blaine | Fire | Pokemon Mansion |
| 8, Earth Badge | Giovanni | Ground | Viridian City |
The Gyms come in this order, one at a time. From Lt. Surge to Blaine, every Gym fields at least one Dark Pokemon, and it ignores its leader now and then, the same way it would ignore you. The Viridian Gym has more of them, and its leader is not who he says he is. After the eighth badge, a Mega Stone is yours.
Victory Road replaces Season 1's Cruise: a grunt, a Double Battle, and Executive Proton, then one of Kanto's legendary birds roosting in the rocks. It can be the regular form or the Galarian one, and it can be Dark.
The Elite Four are Kanto's: Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha and Lance. Every one of them has lost Pokemon to the signal. Blue is the Champion. He went into Cerulean Cave alone a week before you, and his team came out Dark.
The last fight is Armoured Mewtwo. You do not knock it out: you break its armor, and Mew fights at your side to do it.
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Armor | 4x Mewtwo's HP, shown as a violet ARMOR gauge in place of its HP bar |
| Mew | Joins the fight, heals your team, and takes 3% of the armor after every exchange |
| Light | Light Pokemon hit the armor 1.5x; the armor counts as Dark |
| The crack | At half the armor, the log says it is cracking |
| The end | When the armor breaks, Mewtwo is free. It stays on the field as a Light Mewtwo, and the signal stops |
The first time you free it, Mewtwo comes to your Daycare as a Light Mewtwo, once per account. You also earn the Liberator ribbon.
Season 2 has its own ranking. Gold is not part of the score.

From the launch on 2026-10-15 to the end of Halloween, 2026-11-07 at 22:00 Brasilia time. Every ranked Season 2 run and every Season 2 Daily adds to one shared count on the homepage: each Dark Pokemon caught is 1 point, each one purified 2, each Light Pokemon caught 3. Each milestone pays its reward the moment the count reaches it.
| Points | Reward |
|---|---|
| 500 | Signal Balls cost 30G until the event ends |
| 1,000 | A Pumpkin Egg, for every player who caught a Dark Pokemon during the event |
| 1,500 | Every new run starts with a Serum Fragment until the event ends |
| 2,000 | A Pumpkin Egg and a Shiny Egg, for every player who caught a Dark Pokemon during the event |
| 2,500 | The Signal Breaker ribbon, for every player who purified a Dark Pokemon during the event |
The Eggs go to your Daycare and the ribbon to your profile as soon as the meter reaches them. Catch your first Dark Pokemon after a milestone and its reward comes with that run. When the event ends, a card on the homepage lists what you got.
| Achievement | How |
|---|---|
| Purifier | Free Mewtwo with 6 or more Pokemon purified in the run |
| Light Bearer | Break Mewtwo's armor with a Light Pokemon |
| Embrace the Signal | Free Mewtwo with 4 or more Dark Pokemon on your team |
| Flawless Victory | Beat the Elite Four and Blue without a Pokemon fainting |
| Deep in the Cave | Beat 10 challengers at Cerulean Cave in one run |
| Iron Will | Its usual rule, and you must free Mewtwo |
Safari Sharpshooter, Lucky Shine, Evolution Chain, Status Effect Specialist, Comeback Kid and Perfectionist stay as they are. Iron Nuzlocke, Master of One, Flawless Victory, Underdog and High Roller are not part of Season 2.
From 2026-10-16 to 2026-11-07 at 22:00 Brasilia time. Darkrai is behind the nightmares in Lavender Town. Everything below is kept after the event by whoever earned it.
Open Rinne once a day and collect the day from Daily Rewards on the homepage. Thirteen days in all. Days count in total, so missing one only costs you that day, and the day rolls at 22:00 Brasilia time with the Daily.
| Day | Reward |
|---|---|
| 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 12 | A Pumpkin Egg |
| 4, 11 | A Shiny Egg |
| 5 | Darkrai, straight into your Daycare |
| 7 | The Halloween ribbon |
| 10 | The Halloween avatar, in the profile's avatar picker |
| 13 | The Jack-o'-lantern for your Daycare yard, a Shiny Egg and a Pumpkin Egg |
The Jack-o'-lantern goes into the yard on its own, with nothing to buy or place. Players who reached day 5 before Darkrai moved there get it on day 7, next to the ribbon.
During the event a regular Egg has a 1 in 2 chance to be laid as a Pumpkin Egg. Half of them hatch Pumpkaboo, the rest a Ghost or Dark Pokemon at level 15, and 1 in 15 hatch shiny. Hatch 10 to unlock the Darkrai banner.
In a Season 2 run a shadow watches you from the top of Pokemon Tower. It catches up with you the night after your 8th badge, in Viridian City, and you get one chance to catch Darkrai. While you fight it, a sleeping Pokemon on your team loses HP every turn. The Tower road is haunted too: Pumpkaboo, Gastly, Mimikyu and other ghosts turn up there far more often.
Catch 25 Dark Pokemon during the event, in story or Daily runs, and the Darkrai cursor is yours. Your starter does not count.
On October 23, 30 and 31 and November 6 the Daily rule is Bad Dreams: only Ghost and Dark types can be caught, a sleeping Pokemon loses 1/8 of its HP every turn, and Darkrai can turn up. See the Daily Challenge page.
Season 1's ranking froze the day Season 2 opened. Season 1 stays playable, without a ranked score. Your Pokedex, Daycare, achievements, ribbons and cosmetics carry over. Season 2's art is credited on the Credits page.
